Melvin "The Young Assassin"
Guillard was born in 1983 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He was son of a Baptist minister and had 4 brothers and
two sisters. Melvin was raised just outside of New Orleans
in the suburban town of Kenner.
Melvin started playing sports at the age of six where
he was the king of playground football. He then started
wrestling in the 6th grade. Melvin attended Bonnable High
School in Kennar where he wrestled and played football.
He was extremely athletic and was on the Junior National
wrestling team for Louisiana. He also received outstanding
achievements as an outside line backer for his high school
football team.
Melvin began his love for fighting through his high school
wrestling coach and longtime friend
Warren Donnely.
In addition to coaching Donnely was also competing in
Mixed Martial Arts events. He would allow Melvin to train
with him and come with him to the events but refused to
let Melvin fight. He told Melvin he would allow him to
fight once he won the state wrestling title. Melvin did
just that and won the state wrestling title in his senior
year of high school. Shortly after that Melvin spent his
days training in jiu-jitsu and boxing. His first fight
came due to circumstance more than anything. Melvin had
actually gone to one of Warrens fights as a spectator
but left as a fighter. The show had a last minute drop
out and asked Melvin if he would like to fill in. Melvin
took the opportunity and knocked his guy out in the first
round. He enjoyed the thrill of fighting and never looked
back as he embarked in his new journey as an Ultimate
Fighter.
Melvin stuck to very active schedule as an amateur fighter.
His current manager at the time scheduled fights for him
at least once, sometimes twice a week. Melvin kept this
pace up for a year and half and had over 60 amateur fights
throughout this time period. He continued to train his
jiu-jitsu and boxing but also began learning the art of
Muay Thai. This allowed Melvin to develop his talents
and be more of an offensive threat than he already was.
Melvin was young and maintained himself injury free throughout
all these fights.
His first professional fight came as a surprise. He actually
had just beaten
Joe Ankonen and was told
after the match that it was a professional bout. Melvin
started his pro career with the same fury as he left his
amateur one with. He wasted no time scheduling one fight
after another. He also kept busy scheduling kickboxing
matches in-between his MMA bouts. At only 22 years of
age Melvin has acquired a long resume of fights. He is
37-4-4 as a professional and has earned a few belts along
the way. He currently holds the ISKA and ICF welterweight
kickboxing titles. In addition to this he holds 3 MMA
titles. He is The Art of War, Battle of New Orleans, and
Battle of the Bayou welterweight champion.
Melvin has only begun to show the world what he can do.
He was just recently featured as a welterweight contestant
on The Ultimate Fighter 2 reality series on Spike TV.
Melvin is currently training in Utah for his upcoming
bout in the UFC. He plans on one day becoming the UFC
welterweight champion and is currently working towards
that goal. Stay tuned to youngassassin.com to get all
